BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Benjamin Magalong confirmed Monday the first known case of B.1.1.7 or UK variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease (COVID-19), in the city.
The variant was detected in a 30-year-old woman who tested positive for COVID-19 on Feb. 12, 2021. She recovered from the infection on Feb. 23, 2021.
Magalong said contact tracing efforts has been intensified to contain the spread of the more transmissible variant.
Records showed that for the month of February, the city recorded a total of 650 cases, 141 of which are symptomatic; 912 recoveries, and 10 deaths. (Zaldy Comanda)
