‘Darna’ flying soon

“Darna,” the TV series on ABS-CBN, is flying soon, with Jane de Leon playing the iconic Pinay superwoman. It was originally meant for the big screen but the pandemic came about.

ABS-CBN has no franchise, but then it tied up with TV-5 and A2Z. It has also cable, which is aired nationwide and worldwide. Plus other social platforms.

Janine Gutierrez is being considered for the Valentina role, the main villainess.

Before Jane, Angel Locsin and Marian Rivera played “Darna” on GMA.

The first “Darna” was Rosa del Rosario in the early ‘50s. “She was the best ‘Darna’ because of her regal bearing,” the author, Mars Ravelo, said.

Other actresses who played “Darna” where Eva Montes, Liza Moreno, Gina Pareño, Vilma Santos, Rio Locsin, Anjanette Abayari, and Nanette Medved.

Sharon Cuneta and Regine Velasquez wore the “Darna” costume in “Captain Barbell” films.
