STO. DOMINGO, Nueva Ecija – A drunk school teacher was burned to death by a 20-year-old man whom he slapped in Barangay in San Pascual at around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Nueva Ecija police director Col. Jaime Santos identified the victim as Rolando dela Cruz, 63, of Barangay San Alejandro, Quezon town.
The suspect, Joebert Gamrot, was arrested by responding policemen and is presently detained at the town’s jail.
Initial report revealed that the victim, who was allegedly under the influence of liquor, arrived at the place and with no apparent reason slapped the suspect’s head several times.
In fit of anger, Gamrot, who was playing then with his cellular phone, grabbed a piece of wood and struck the victim’s head. The impact was too strong that Dela Cruz lost his consciousness.
Pressed by the authorities, Gamrot admitted he burned the victim whom he believed was still alive at the time.
Santos had ordered a thorough investigation on the teacher’s brutal killing. (Ariel P. Avendaño)
