The Bureau of Immigration (BI) launched a manhunt against a lady online scammer who allegedly victimized a number of foreign students encountering enrollment problems.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente ordered the search of a certain Liza Perez Tubban, who reportedly introduced herself on Facebook as an “immigration hearing officer” when she met her victims.
The BI chief said the name was definitely fake and even used the picture of a casual employee as her picture profile.
Morente said one of the victims, an Indian national, contacted the suspect through Facebook to help her fix her enrollment problem.
But the victim said the suspect had stopped all communication with her after delivering several tranches of payment totaling to P45,000.
Morente said they will also ask the assistance of the anti- cybercrime group of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for the speedy solution of the online extortion racket. (Jun Ramirez)
