Caloocan City Rep. Edgar “Egay” Erice yesterday confirmed that he tested positive for COVID-19.
Erice disclosed this development in a Facebook post. “After eight days in quarantine, I have tested positive of COVID,” Erice said.
The House lawmaker said his office would be temporarily closed “due to the numerous cases among my staff members.”
“I have very mild symptoms so nothing to worry. God’s grace shall bear us out of this pandemic,” he said.
Aside from Erice, at least 15 other members of the House of Representatives had tested positive for COVID-19. The most recent ones were Majority Leader Martin Romualdez, Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor, and Negros Oriental Rep. Jocelyn Sy Limkaichong.
Other lawmakers who also tested positive for COVID were Deputy Speaker and Oriental Mindoro Rep. Doy Leachon, Zamboanga City Rep. Manuel Jose “Mannix” Dalipe, Gabriela Women’s party Rep. Arlene Brosas, 1-Pacmanparty-list Rep. Eric Pineda, Cavite Rep. Luis “Jon-Jon” Ferrer IV, Deputy Speaker Mujiv Hataman, and Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel.
Two lawmakers – Senior Citizens party-list Rep. Francisco Datol Jr. and Sorsogon Rep. Ma. Bernardita “Ditas” Ramos – died after testing positive for the disease last year.
