Jersey Marticio showed what she’s made of and completed a seven-game sweep of the elite girls 18-under division of the 2021 Mayor Atty Rolen C Paulino National Age Group Online Chess Championships North Luzon Leg held over the weekend.
The 13-year-old Marticio, a Grade 8 student of Pulo National High School in Cabuyao City, Laguna, beat Darlyn Villanueva, Marphine Faith Mangubat, Marian Calimbo, Me Ann Joy Baclayon, Aeoina Lou Tomas Mendoza, and Shaina Magne Romanillos to complete her dominance of the event.
Calimbo and Villanueva settled for the runner-up honors after tallying identical 5 points.
Sharing the spotlight with Marticio were category winners Robert James Perez (Open 18-under), Ritchie James Abeleda (Open 16-under), Jelaine Adriano (girls 16-under), Arvie Aguilar (Open 20-under), and Ma. Elayza Villa (girls 20-under).
Dubbed as the 2021 Mayor Atty Rolen C Paulino National Age Group Online Chess Championships North Luzon Leg, the tournament aims to keep the sport alive during the pandemic by taking advantage of technology.
