Alex Eala and Argentine partner Solana Sierra advanced to the quarterfinals of the Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship Thursday (Friday in Manila) at the Florida claycourt.
Eala and Sierra bested Russian Mirra Andreeva and American Katja Wiersholm, 6-3, 6-2, in the Round of 16.
They will next face Chelsea Fontenel of Switzerland and Qavia Lopez of the United States.
Earlier, the 16-year-old Filipina netter fell out of the singles contention after yielding to Czech Republic’s Kristyna Tomajkova in the second round.
This marks Eala’s return to active competition and first quarterfinals appearance since battling it out in the US Juniors Open Championship last September.
In the US Open, Eala barged in the singles quarterfinal and the doubles semifinal.
