#BrigadangAyalaKaakay: Millennial lawyer, may pag-asang dala sa mga magsasaka

MANILA – Hindi nagdalawang isip si Michelle Hatol, graduate ng San Beda Law, nang tanungin siya ng kanyang ama na pangasiwaan ang kanilang family business na New Isabela Grains Milling, isang supplier at advocate ng lokal na palay simula 1982. Kasalukuyang supplier si Hatol sa 12-week food distribution program ng #BrigadangAyalaKaakay para sa 10,000 pamilya sa Metro Manila.

“Malapit talaga sa akin ang pagsasaka dahil lumaki ako sa Isabela. Bata pa lang ako, nagtitimbang na ako ng palay. Tuwing summer, nagta-trabaho ako kasama ng mga magsasaka kapag bakasyon,” saad ng 36-year-old na lawyer. Si Hatol ang kasalukuyang namumuno sa sales, marketing, at business development ng kanilang kompanya sa Metro Manila, samantalang ang kanyang dalawang kapatid na lalaki naman ang nangangasiwa sa kanilang operasyon sa Isabela at Mountain Province. Sa ngayon, may 200 staff sila na katuwang ng higit 500 na magsasaka.

“Nabibigyan kami ng oportunidad na mag-angkat ng bigas, sa katunayan maraming beses na pero lagi kaming tumatanggi. Kasi kapag pumayag kami, hindi na namin matutulungan ang mga magsasaka. Karamihan sa kanila kasama na namin simula pa noong 1982. Ang priority talaga naming ay local rice,” dagdag pa niya.

Bukod sa direktang pagbili ng bigas mula sa mga magsasaka, nagbibigay din sila ng holistic support programs, kasama na ang short-term loans at pagpapakilala ng mga makabagong farming technique.

#BrigadangAyalaKaakay   

Pinangunahan ni TG Limcaoco, presidente at CEO ng BPI, ang distribusyon ng mga food packs sa mahigit 200 na benepisyaryo ng Kaakay sa Navotas. Sila ay parte ng 10,000 na pamilya na makakatanggap ng 12-linggong supply ng bigas, sariwang gulay, mga de latang pagkain, at tinapay na sapat para sa pamilyang may limang miyembro. Ang mga pamilyang kasali sa programa ay makakatanggap ng ayudang pagkain linggo-linggo simula Nobyembre 2021 hanggang Perbrero 2022.

#BrigadangAyalaKaakay: Ang BPI team na pinagunahan ni TG Limcaoco, presidente at CEO ng BPI, ay naghandog ng Ayala Kaakay food packs sa mahigit na 200 na benepisyaryo sa Navotas.

“Being able to help feed badly affected families in Metro Manila and at the same time, support local food suppliers and farmers from the provinces is truly a blessing,” ani Limcaoco.  “At BPI, we look forward to collaborating with the rest of the Ayala group for more meaningful Kaakay projects.”

Nagbigay din ang BPI Foundation ng anim na wheelchairs, adult diapers, alcohol, at wipes para sa mga matatandang kinupkop ng Tulay ng Kabataan.

Ayon kay TG Limcaoco, BPI president & CEO, noon pa man ay lubos ang suporta ng BPI sa sector ng agrikultura. Itinatag ng BPI Foundation ang programang ‘Farm to Table’ upang tulungan ang magsasaka at vegetable growers na magkaroon ng mas masaganang ani. Simula 2019, ang ‘Farm to Table’ program ay tumutulong sa higit na 2,600 farming communities na may 13,500 na miyembro.

Dagdag ni Limcaoco, noon pa man ay lubos ang suporta ng BPI sa sector ng agrikultura. Itinatag ng BPI Foundation ang programang “Farm to Table” upang tulungan ang magsasaka na magkaroon ng mas masaganang ani sa pamamagitan ng makabagong climate-adaptive na teknolohiya at patuloy na maiangat ang sector ng agrikultura sa bansa.
