Olympian pole vaulter EJ Obiena expressed his gratefulness after his successful knee operation Wednesday – a little over two weeks before he plunges into action.
The 26-year-old announced this on social media, adding that the doctors cleaned his meniscus in a hospital in Germany.
The doctors also removed the screw on his knee from the acute cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in 2017 since the bone graft has already been solidified.
Reports said he had surgery done at the Southwest German Center for Sport Traumatology.
“Down but not out! Surgery was successful, ” Obiena posted.
“It shouldn’t affect my recovery and we’re still on and aiming for 28th of January competition.”
Obiena also thanked his supporters particularly the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Butch Ramirez for announcing that the funds for his surgery are already available.
“My most immediate task is to get healthy and get back on track so that I can compete again for the country. Everything else is priority number 2. Time for work to be done!” Obiena wrote.
