Nonito Donaire’s plan for a truce with MP Promotions chief Sean Gibbons went to naught as the two figured in an altercation Saturday in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This as Donaire posted on his Twitter account a video of Gibbons causing a scene at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino while cursing at both Nonito and his wife and trainer Rachel.
Gibbons was also seen flashing his middle finger as one individual stepped up to prevent the American promoter to come closer to the Donaires.
“He’s (Sean) was the one who stood up and started pointing ‘yong (the) finger and cussing at us. Even ‘yong bata niya (Brendan) was trying to calm him down e (Even Brendan was trying to calm his dad down). There was another person that was standing in between just trying to calm everything down,” explained Rachel in a live session through Youtube via Beyond The Ring with Nonito and Rachel.
Nonito then came up to the live discussion and also explained that he just wanted to talk to Gibbons personally to end their feud once and for all.
But it didn’t come out as he planned out as the MP Promotions president suddenly burst with rage, said Donaire, despite him asking politely.
The reigning WBC bantamweight champion added that he planned to do the same peaceful talk with Gibbons after he also figured in an online altercation and misunderstanding with strength and conditioning coach Memo Heredia, when WBO bantamweight titlist John Riel Casimero was still with the MP Promotions.
“Ayaw kong ganito ‘yong iba-iba sinasabi sa social media. Ayusin ko to. Kailangan ko siya kausapin. Gusto ko eye-to-eye mapag-usapan at aayusin lahat (I don’t want people talking on social with this and that. I wanted to fix it. I need to talk to him eye-to-eye and talk it out),” said the 39-year-old Donaire.
“Sabi ko (I said), ‘Sean, can we talk?’ Gusto ko talaga na maayos lahat e (I really wanted to settle the issue). ‘Ano bang problema mo? Ano ba ‘tong mga sinasabi mo sa asawa ko?’ (What’s your problem? What’s your problem with my wife and what about those things you had said to her?) Ganoon ang pagkatao ko. ‘Pag may problema ako sa tao, sasabihin ko sa mukha mo. Ayaw ko ng social media messaging (That’s just who I am. If I have a problem with a person, I’ll say it outright in front of that person. I don’t want social media messaging).
“Biglang nagalit. ‘Ba’t nagagalit ka?’ Sabi ko lang sa’yo, ‘Let’s talk.’ And all of a sudden, nag-heated siya, umalis, tumayo at nagsisisigaw na (But he suddenly became mad. ‘Why would get angry?’ I just said, ‘Let’s talk.’ And all of a sudden, he walked off and shouted),” said Donaire.
Donaire added that Gibbons was fuming and said he “doesn’t have time” for them as the security came to control the situation.
Gibbons, who is known for being active on social media, especially on Twitter, has yet to comment on the issue.
