In a clash of titans, Creamline proved steadier, outlasting Petro Gazz, 25-23, 23-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-10, to complete a three-game sweep of Group B elims in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference Wednesday at the Paco Arena in Manila.
25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-10, for only the second game that went the full distance.
After splitting the first four sets that could’ve gone either way in tightly fought fashions, the Cool Smashers took early control in the decider at 4-1 on a Jeanette Panaga power tip off the Angels’ over-receive.
They stayed in command at 9-5 before sitting on a five-point cushion at 14-9 on an Alyssa Valdez off-the-block hit.
The Angels saved a match point in the ensuing play but Jema Galanza scored through two defenders to close out the match.
Petro Gazz settled for No. 2 and the other twice-to-beat edge in the knockout quarterfinals.
It marked the second time the match went the full route.
Meantime, PLDT survived a determined BaliPure, 25-20, 26-24, 25-22, to clinch the third seeding in Pool B at 1-3.
Mika Reyes bannered the Power Hitters with 11 points built on seven kills, three blocks and an ace, while Dell Palomata and Toni Rose Basas added eight points apiece. (Kristel Satumbaga)
