The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) celebrated Independence Day with the official launch of multi-awarded filmmaker, film historian, and author Nick Deocampo’s latest book “Alternative Cinema: The Unchronicled History of Alternative Cinema in the Philippines.”
Organized by the FDCP Philippine Film Archive and supported by University of the Philippines Press, the event was held at the Cinematheque Centre Manila, June 12.
The special event started with screenings of Prof. Deocampo’s “Memories of Old Manila” and “Private Wars,” films part of the From His/Her/Their Lens: Nick Deocampo Retrospective section of the Pelikulaya: International LGBTQIA+ Film Festival.
The screenings were followed by a book signing event with the invited guests and audiences.
Commemorative copies were gifted to the special guests at the events, namely FDCP Chairperson and CEO Liza Diño, UP Film Institute’s Ms. Sari Dalena, Former NCCA Commissioner, archivist, and historian Teddy Co, Mowelfund Film Institute’s Mr. Ricky Orellana, Director’s Guild of the Philippines, Inc. (DGPI) President Paolo Villaluna, Society of Film Archivists (SOFIA) President Ms. Rose Roque, Japan Foundation’s Mr. Ben Suzuki, UNESCO Artist for Peace Director Ms. Cecile Guidote Alvarez, Filmmakers Mr. Raymond Red, Mr. Rune Layumas, Mr. Khavn de la Cruz, Mr. Auraeus Solito, Mr. Dik Trofeo, Historian Mr. Xiao Chua, Actors Mr. Mon Confiado and Mr. Ricky Davao, Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors’ (SPEED) Nestor Cuartero, Philippine Movie Press Club’s (PMPC) Mell Navarro, and TEAM’s Pilar Mateo.
