Legendary trainer Freddie Roach said he is still willing to work with Manny Pacquiao should the Filipino boxing great decide to unretire.
Roach though believes that Pacquiao has nothing left to prove in the boxing ring after being the only eight-division world boxing champion.
“I think he’s finished [with boxing],” Roach said in an interview with BoxingScene.com. “I don’t think he has anything more to prove. He’s done everything he can, I can feel. He doesn’t owe anything to anybody.
“If he does wanna come back and fight again, I hope he picks me as a trainer,” added the 62-year-old American trainer.
Pacquiao, 43, is set to return to action but only on an exhibition match against South Korean martial artist and vlogger DK Yoo on December.
It will be the first time that Pacquiao, who owns 62 wins, including 39 by knockouts against eight losses and two draws, steps into the ring since losing to Yordenis Ugas last August 2021.
Despite asking for the coaching gig, Roach is also ready to talk to Pacquiao and remind him that “you don’t need to prove nothing to anybody in the world.
The Hall of Famer trainer added that Jinkee, Pacquiao’s wife, isn’t also favor of him returning to boxing.
“If he’s willing to come back, I’d like to help him and wish him the best of luck. But his wife and everyone doesn’t want him to come back. There’s a lot more people that feel he doesn’t need to come back. What does he have to prove? He’s already been there.”
