Kai Sotto has decided to part ways with agent Joel Bell and tapped the services of renowned Wasserman – the same agency that handles some of the NBA brightest stars, including Russell Westbrook and Klay Thompson.
The 7-foot-3 center and his new agency itself made the announcement Wednesday night as Sotto hopes to resume his bid to become the first homegrown Filipino talent to play in the NBA.
]Sotto was initially represented by Bell paving the way to the Filipino wunderkind’s stint in the Australia’s NBL. Bell was also Sotto’s agent when Sotto applied for the NBA Draft last June.
However, plans on Sotto’s next move after going undrafted in the NBA were shrouded with confusion following the initial statements of Bell declaring that Sotto will play for Gilas Pilipinas and will not entertain teams interested to tap him for the NBA Summer League.
Sotto though was quick to refute Bell’s statements through a tweet saying the Bell ‘misspoke’ and that he has yet to make a decision regarding his future – a statement which Sotto’s handlers East West Private backed noting the camp of the 20-year-old prospect was still open with possible opportunities, including playing in the Summer League.
With offers for Sotto going scarce as he found himself without a team when the Summer League commenced earlier in the month, the camp of the Filipino prodigy prompted to switch to Wasserman.
Wasserman is the very sports marketing and talent management company which also handles the likes of Derrick Rose, Domantas Sabonis and rising stars Evan Mobley and Shai Gilgeious-Alexander
