About 1,500 taekwondo jins from over 50 teams will vie for supremacy as the 2022 Smart/MVP Sports Foundation National Taekwondo Poomsae Championships unwrap this weekend for its first face-to-face competition after two years at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Parañaque.
The Philippine Taekwondo Association announced that only fully vaccinated taekwondo jins are allowed to participate in the competition set to start at 9 a.m.
Events on tap are pair, team, free style for colored and black belts.
Martial art enthusiasts and sports aficionados, especially children who are interested in the sport are invited to watch the event where attack and defense techniques against imaginary opponents are featured.
“It is a way of understanding and practicing every aspect of one of the oldest martial arts – its basic technique, breathing control, balance, co-ordination and concentration.,” the federation said in a statement.
“The mind and body can work together in striving for perfection of technique that can never be achieved. Taekwondo is meaningless without poomsae,” the federation added.
Almost all regions in the country will take part in the two-day event.
Those who have confirmed participation in the event supported by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and MILO are teams from Far Eastern University, Ateneo, Xavier, Meta Gym, UP Diliman, and St. Paul Paranaque.
