They’re young but very promising.
Rosalinda Faustino and Rosegie Ramos, who both hail from the weightlifting hotbed of Zamboanga City, showed glimpses of their talents as they humbled their respective rivals to win three golds each in the Asian Youth and Junior Championships 2022 Tuesday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Faustino, 15, prevailed in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total in the women’s 49kg youth division while Ramos, 17, also prevailed in the said three events in the women’s 49kg junior class.
Faustino lifted 71kg in snatch, 90 kg in clean and jerk and 161 in total to reign supreme against Vietnam’s Do Thi Ngoc Anh and Thailand’s Tika Thitaphon.
Ramos tallied 80 kg in snatch, 96 kg in clean and jerk, and 176 kg in total to rule Vietnamese Nguyen Bich Tram and Phan Thi Tuyet Ngoc.
Ramos’ victory came a day after younger sister, Rose Jean, collected one gold, one silver and one bronze in the women’s 45kg junior division.
Overall, the country now has 12 gold, two silver and three bronze medals with Vanessa Sarno expected to strike and hike the country’s medal count on Friday.
