Xian Lim initially carved a niche for himself in showbiz as actor, model.
He would surprise many going on to branch out as musician and film director.
And he is good at it, too.
The 33-year-old has several films out already.
He is currently busy working on Viva’s “Hello, Universe” a fantasy comedy he wrote himself.
“It’s basically about what if’s,” he told us. “It tells the story of a man cursing his life, deeming himself a failure. Until he meets a mysterious character who will make his dreams come true. The catch though is will it finally make him happy?”
Xian went on, “I started writing this several years ago pa, actually. I just thought it would be nice to deal with a subject matter that many could relate to. I mean, ‘di ba lahat naman tayo parang minsan napapaisip na, ‘ano kaya kung ganito ginawa ko noon? Mas maganda kaya ang buhay ko?’”
According to Xian, he finds a different kind of fulfillment as writer and director.
“Yeah, I’m happy with what I achieved as actor and yun naman talaga ang bread and butter natin but writing and directing a film is something else. Napu-push niya ‘yung creativity ko.”
He has done a mystery crime-thriller in “Tabon.” He also did re-imagined versions of classics like “Florante At Laura,” “Ibong Adarna.” With puppets. Just recently, he completed a slice-of-life type of romantic series in “Pasabuy.”
Asked which genre he prefers most, Xian said, “Wala akong preference.”
“Gusto ko sana ma-recognize as someone who could direct and write any kind of material. Ayoko i-kahon ang sarili ko as a writer and director. I want to take on everything.”
