Former Vice President Leni Robredo and boxing legend Manny Pacquiao are among the principal sponsors chosen by Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz for her wedding.
Diaz is set to tie knot with long-time partner Julius Naranjo, who is also her current head coach in Team HD, at the St. Ignatius Church in Baguio City’s Philippine Military Academy on July 26.
July 26 not only marks Diaz’s wedding day but it is also exactly one year after the Zamboanga native weightlifter won the historic and first gold medal of the Philippines in the quadrennial sports meet.
“Ninang Leni” trended on social media as Diaz’s manager Noel Ferrer shared the star-studded entourage on social media, congratulating the couple in advance for their upcoming wedding.
It would be recalled that the 31-year-old Diaz is a firm supporter of Robredo.
When she bagged the gold medal in the Vietnam SEA Games, Diaz was clad in pink uniform – the same color used by Robredo during the presidential campaigns.
Other sports personalities who will serve as principal sponsors for the wedding of Diaz and Narajo are Manuel V. Pangilinan, chairman emeritus of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, Ramon S. Ang, president and chief executive officer of San Miguel Corporation, Cong. Bambol Tolentino, president of Philippine Olympic Committee, Ricky Vargas, chairman of the PBA and team governor of TNT, and Monico Puentevella, Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas chief.
Diaz and Naranjo first met at the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Game in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, where the latter suited up for Guam in the 62kg category.
