The back-and-forth negotiation finally came to an end after TNT and high scoring guard Mikey Williams reached an agreement with a contract extension just in time for their quarterfinals clash against Converge.
Williams was signed to a three-year deal on Tuesday with team manager Jojo Lastimosa, putting a resolution to the contract negotiation which lasted for a couple of months.
Last season’s Rookie of the Year even missed half of the elimination schedule of the Tropang Giga although he showed why he is deserving of a new deal in his return, averaging 21.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists in five games.
Williams had a clause on his initial contract which allowed him to renegotiate his two-year deal if he managed to help TNT to a championship. The Tropang Giga reigned supreme in the last season’s Philippine Cup which enabled Williams to impose the clause.
Negotiations were stalled for quite some time between Williams and head coach Chot Reyes, who back then was handling the situation before Lastimosa came into the picture as TNT’s new team manager.
