Ateneo continues with its massive pre-season recruitment, this time securing the commitment of yet another guard in Filipino-American Jared Brown.
The 5-foot-10 Brown, a close friend and a former high school teammate of Chris Koon over in Westmont College, will be eligible in UAAP Season 86.
Ateneo team manager Epok Quimpo confirmed that Brown, 21, will have three playing years at the most.
“I think I can just contribute right off the bat with my experience,” said Brown via Zoom as he was introduced to the Philippine media prior to the press conference and send-off for the Blue Eagles, who will compete at the World University Basketball Series (WUBS) in Japan this month, Thursday, Aug. 4 at the Dragon’s Nest in Bagumbayan, Quezon City.
“I’ve played three years in the State. I’m very mature. I can provide some leadership, my point guard spot, I feel like my shooting ability and playmaking abilities are something that I can provide,” added the former Westmont guard. “I’m just wanna do whatever it takes to win. That’s all that matters. I just wanna help my teammates in any way possible.”
Over at Westmont College last season, Brown averaged 15.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists.
Playing for coach Tab Baldwin and being part of the blue and white community were the two biggest factors that Brown had to consider in playing in the UAAP.
As someone who has seen video clips of UAAP games on YouTube, Brown, who is the brother-in-law of NLEX guard Kris Rosales, is just excited to play for the Blue Eagles.
Brown will be a powerful addition in the Blue Eagles’ backcourt following the departure of SJ Belangel, Tyler Tio, and Gian Mamuyac.
