It looks like TNT hotshot Mikey Williams just earned a new fan in NBA star Jordan Clarkson after the former’s performance in the Tropang Giga’s 86-84 win against the San Miguel Beermen in Game 1 of their best-of-seven 2022 PBA Philippine Cup Finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Sunday, Aug. 21.
Williams went berserk along with Roger Pogoy and Jayson Castro in the third quarter as the Tropang Giga successfully overhauled a 15-point deficit.
The Fil-Am guard went on to finish with 21 points.
This prompted Clarkson to show his appreciation towards Williams and took it to social media his support for the Tropang Giga’s do-it-all guard.
“big fan! mikey williams got game! TNT!” the Utah Jazz guard tweeted shortly.
After the game, the 30-year-old Williams made it short but sweet and returned the favor to Clarkson.
“That’s love,” said the Rookie of the Year awardee when asked about Clarkson’s tweet. “I know him from LA (Los Angeles). I played with him a lot there so I’m familiar with him.”
The 6-foot-2 Williams hails from Los Angeles spending most of his high school and collegiate basketball careers representing California.
Interestingly, though Clarkson, 30, is from Tampa, Florida, the Filipino-American star spent the first four years of his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Clarkson, unfortunately, missed the biggest highlight of the game as he left early in the fourth quarter.
That was when vintage Castro came up with a magical play, eluding San Miguel’s Simon Enciso like a wind and banging in a buzzer-beating jumper.
