People are talking about “Emergency Declaration.”
A disaster film, it is now the 5th highest-grossing Korean film of the year so far, with gross earnings amounting to US $15.4 million.
It is easy to see why people love it.
Despite its length (at 2 hours and 45 minutes), it is never boring.
Film director Han Jae-rim pulled out all the stops to make sure viewers get sucked into the drama, the terror, the panic, even if it means having to defy logic at times, going on to also energetically and persistently tug at the heartstrings at every turn.
And it works too.
Filled with so many loops and curls, “Emergency Declaration” is riveting.
The superb acting of the cast, particularly Lee Byun-hun, Song Kang-ho, Im Si-wan, adds gravitas to the affair.
Of course, it should be noted that their characters’ respective backstories are complete than most.
If you are into disaster films, you would do well not to miss this one.
From Viva International Pictures and MVP Entertainment “Emergency Declaration,” opens Aug. 31.
