The Philippines faces another Herculean task as it battles many-time SEAG champion Thailand in the AVC Cup for Women quarterfinals at the Philsports Arena Saturday.
Game starts at 8 p.m. with the Nationals – all playing for the champion squad Creamline in the PVL – ready to pull all the stops in their bid to topple a regional giant and secure a spot in the semis.
As things stand now, the Nationals have already bettered their 9th place in the 2018 edition.
After dropping their first two games, the Nationals won their next two games to finish third in Group A elims.
The Thais, the 2012 champions, placed second in Pool B with a 2-1 slate.
Coach Sherwin Meneses is no stranger to such big time moments as he was one of coach Dante Alinsunurin’s trusted assistants to historic silver medal run of the PH men’s team in the 30th Southeast Asian Games in 2019.
One of the team’s highlights was stunning the Thais in the semifinals.
“Hopefully, we can pull this one off because we know Thailand, they are a very strong team. But the ball is round. Last time in men’s, we were able to win it. Hopefully, in women’s we can win,” he said.
