GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Bacolod Bingo Plus banked on the solid play of Mark Yee to trounce Quezon City MG Cars, 79-64, on Tuesday in the OKbet-MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League) 4th Season presented by Xtreme at the Lagao Gym here.
Showing that age is just a number, Yee posted 18 points, including a perfect 8 of 8 free throws, and 9 rebounds as Bacolod rebounded from a 76-73 loss to GenSan late Monday.
“I wanted to prove that even if I’m already old (40) I can still contribute to my team, especially on rebound and defense” said Yee, who was named player of the game.
Yee was supported by homegrown Raymond Ilagan with 13 points and 5 rebounds and John Lee Yu with 10 points and 5 rebounds in pushing Bacolod to a 10-7 record.
Jeramer Cabanag also did his share for Bacolod with 9 points and 6 rebounds.
Missing its crack point guard Marcy Arellano, Quezon City trailed by as many as 21 points, 53-74, and suffered its eighth defeat against seven wins.
Bundled up by Bacolod’s tough defense, no Quezon City player was able to score in double digits with Christopher Menguez and Adrian Celada contributing 8 points each.
MPBL CEO and founder Manny Pacquiao watched the games which are part of the GenSan Tuna Festival.
The league’s Mindanao swing takes a two-day break before resuming with another doubleheader on Friday at the Sarangani Provincial Capitol Gym.
