San Beda tries to create a three-way tie for the lead as it tangles with Jose Rizal University Tuesday in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.
While they are coming off an inspiring victory over defending champion Letran, 76-68, on Friday, the Red Lions can’t take the Heavy Bombers lightly in their 12 noon showdown.
The Bombers, for one, are likewise on a roll, having won their last three games since dropping their first two games.
University of Perpetual Help System Dalta and winless Emilio Aguinaldo College clash in the day’s other game at 3 p.m.
San Beda also got a break when its opening day loss to Mapua was nullified as the Season 97 runners-up reportedly fielded an ineligible player.
That gave them a 4-1 record in solo third while the Bombers are at fourth place with a 3-2 card.
Tied for first to second are College of Saint Benilde and Lyceum with identical 5-1 slates.
After a dismal campaign last season – finishing with 1-9 mark – the Bombers are looking good especially after their 67-64 overtime win over the Cardinals last Friday.
But up against a deeper San Beda team, coach Louie Gonzalez said they need to raise their game a notch higher to have a chance to beat the Red Lions.
