Makati FC downed St. George Australia, 2-1, and ruled the 14-under division in the 2022 Malaysia Borneo Football Cup Tuesday in Kota Kinabalu.
Joshua Moleje and River Solis netted the first-half goals that proved crucial for Makati FC’s title win.
They advanced to the final with a 1-0 win Diklat Merden of Indonesia in the semifinal.
Makati FC boys U14 finished the tournament undefeated as it also swept Group B elims with a maximum of nine points. In 2019, the club won the 15U crown.
Makati FC blanked TABS Malaysia, 2-0, edged Football West Australia, 3-2, and upended fellow Philippine youth club Malaya FC, 2-0, to complete the sweep.
Solis was the team’s top goalscorer with six goals, highlighted by a brace against the Australians.
Coaches SeLu Lozano, Bob Salvacion and founder Tomas Lozano led the Makati FC delegation.
“Our program continues to evolve and get better because of these international exposures. We aim that one day a lot more of our young filipino talents get the opportunity they deserve,” said coach SeLu, who is also Makati FC Director and CEO.
“We’re very happy for what the boys have accomplished in this tournament and the club looks forward to paving bigger dreams for our Filipino youth.”
Makati FC will travel again in November, this time to compete in SingaCup, where the club will bring in five teams – two from Boys 10 and squads from Girls 14, Boys 12 and Boys 8.
