Andrea Del Rosario was the “first and only choice” of director McArthur C. Alejandre as lead of “May December January.”
He cited several reasons: “Una, she has the face and body of what one might consider a ‘hot momma.’ Dapat kasi desirable din talaga ang magpo-portray kay Claire, ang character niya sa pelikula. Then there’s Andrea’s ability as actress. Kung puro ganda lang at wala ring ibubuga sa acting, babagsak ang pelikula. Sa kanya naka-angkla ang istorya eh. Lastly, Andrea is quite daring and open as actress. I need that para sa gaganap sa role ni Claire.”
But who is Claire exactly?
In the film, Claire is a single mom to a gay son. Their love will be tested when they both fall for the same man.
Andrea intoned, “I could only be thankful na ako ang napili ni Direk Mac for the role. Ang ganda ng role ko. And lead pa! It’s been a while so, I’m really, really thankful lang talaga na at my age, nabigyan pa ako ng pagkakataon na mag-portray ng ganito kabigat at ka-challenging na role. It doesn’t come often.”
She has done her fair share of sexy films in the past. Will she expose herself as much in “May December January?”
“I won’t say. Ayoko i-spoil ‘yung expectations ng mga tao. Isa lang masasabi ko, I gave my all in portraying Claire. Sinunod ko lahat ng sinabi ni Direk Mac and watching the rushes, masaya, masaya ako sa kinalabasan.”
That the film is written by National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, Ricky Lee, is a huge plus for Andrea.
“Dun pa lang alam mo na ang quality ng film,” she said.
Also starring Gold Aceron, Kych Minemoto, “May December January” opens Oct. 12 in cinemas nationwide.
