Piolo Pascual is among fans of South Korean dramas.
His favorite? “Crash Landing On You.”
Ironically, he never got to watch “Flower Evil.”
Note that he is among lead stars of the local adaptation.
When it was pitched to him, Piolo said he was “intrigued” with the very complex, “very wow” storyline.
“Alam mo yung out of this world,” was how he put it.
But there was huge pressure doing the show.
“First of all because this is gonna be an adaptation so there’s an expectation, there’s gonna be bashing and there’s, of course, gonna be judgement from a lot of people… comparison and everything, but the best things about this was knowing the story. How it was gonna start, how it was gonna end, like a reference. So we kinda have a manual or guide as to how we could do it differently. That was the advantage of it,” he said.
Did they try to simply copy the original?
He answered, “Hindi naman necessarily kinopya but meron kang napanuod na and there’s just too much expectation. And for me what I wanted to achieve was to give it a different approach.”.
“As an actor, I think it was a hard for me because ang galing nung Korean version. Coming into the show, having Lovi (Poe) and Pau (Avelino) nakita ko yung nag-explore pa sila. So that actually helped me in terms of what I achieved.”
Piolo pushed himself in doing a better version of “Flower Of Evil.”
“Sabi ko I didn’t want to just wing it but I want it to do it the right way,” he maintained, adding how he would always have talks with the directors to discuss even the littlest thing.
“And I hope you know I was able to give justice to what was given to me. But I’m just really happy kasi kahit papaano na elevate natin yung Filipino content.”
The finale of “Flower of Evil” will be airing on Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, and Jeepney TV today (Oct. 8) and tomorrow (Oct. 9) at 9 p.m. (Stephanie Bernardino-Mauban)
