National University and Ateneo, fully rested and motivated, shoot for their second straight wins when they go up against their respective rivals Saturday (Oct. 15) at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
The Lady Bulldogs, fine-tuning for the coming UAAP season where they are the reigning champions, laid out the groundwork in a masterful fashion, besting Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, 25-14, 25-6, 25-12, last Oct. 9 to keep the latter from tasting their first victory after two outings.
NU will bank on its reliable trio in rookie Evangeline Alinsug, team captain Cess Robles and Minierva Maaya in the 5:30 p.m. encounter with JRU.
“We were a bit rusty coming off a one-week vacation and we just got back to training a week ago. We are still far from our competitive form but at it is a good thing we’re now back to our usual grind,” said NU coach Karl Dimaculangan
Meanwhile, Ateneo, which is also coming off a straight-set 25-14, 30-28, 25-17 victory against Arellano last Oct. 1, will battle it out against JRU in Pool C in their 3 p.m. meeting determined to log its second win.
Set at 12:30 p.m., Perpetual will be taking care of business against Mapua (1-1) to end the preliminaries with a victory after two wins against one loss in Pool A.
Opening the hostilities of the quadruple-header, San Sebastian and Emilio Aguinaldo College, both winless in Pool B, will clash at 10 a.m.
