Yeliz Basa outduelled fellow import Lindsay Vander Weide as Creamline turned back Petro Gazz, 25-19, 16-25, 25-18, 27-25, in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena Tuesday night, Oct. 18.
Basa and Vander Weide each scored 28 points but it was the Turk who came through in the end in leading the Cool Smashers to their second victory in a row, which was good for a share of No. 1 with the Chery Tiggo Crossovers.
“What’s good about her, she’s adjusting to our system, which is good since we take pride in it,” said Creamline setter Jia de Guzman referring to the power-hitting Basa.
While Basa carried Creamline throughout, it was skipper Alyssa Valdez who did the rest, coming through with her team’s last two points – a pair of devastating kills – that finished off 2019 Reinforced titlist.
Valdez finished with her second triple-double effort as she had 14 hits to go with her fantastic floor defense with 22 digs and 15 receptions.
The Angels fell to 1-1.
