Treat Huey and American Max Schnur outlasted their unseeded foes to capture the Hamburg Challenger 80 title in Germany over the weekend.
The top-seeded Huey and Schnur encountered some shaky moments in the opening set before dominating the second to edge Jamaica’s Dustin Brown and hometown bet Julian Lenz, 7-6 (6), 6-4.
It was Huey and Schnur’s first title as a pair after almost coming close to winning the Saint Tropez Challenger 100 in France last week with a semifinal loss to Romain Arneodo of Monaco and Tristan-Samuel Weissborn of Austria.
Huey, meanwhile, bagged his third title this year following victories in the Savannah Challenger 80 last April with fellow national team member Ruben Gonzales and in the Phoenix Challenger 125 with American Denis Kudla last March.
Huey and Schnur did not drop a set throughout the tournament with triumphs over Croatia’s Duje Ajdukovic and Czech Republic’s Jonas Forejtek, 6-0, 6-1, in the opening round; Lebanon’s Benjamin Hassan and Netherlands’ Jelle Sels, 6-1, 7-6 (4), in the quarterfinals; and third pick Artem Sitak of New Zealand and Sam Verbeek of the Netherlands, 6-4, 7-6 (4), in the semifinals.
