After staging a virtual awards show last year, the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) returns with a face-to-face celebration of the fifth EDDYS (Entertainment Editors’ Choice) on November 27, Sunday, at the Metropolitan Theater (MET).
SPEEd, an organization composed of entertainment editors from major broadsheets and top tabloids in the Philippines, previously held the fourth EDDYs last 2021 virtually.
Joining the well-loved entertainment editors in the festivities are OPM icon Ice Seguerra and the King of Talk, Boy Abunda, who both have vital roles in the film event’s fifth edition.
The singer-songwriter has the task of directing this year’s EDDYS, as he did the previous year. Meanwhile, Abunda will host the much-awaited annual awards event.
In this year’s EDDYS, critically-acclaimed Filipino movies released on various platforms in 2021 will vie for awards from 14 categories. Nominees can take home awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, and Best Actor, among other recognitions.
Eugene Asis, the entertainment editor for People’s Journal and newly-elect President of SPEEd, claims that the fifth EDDYS will be more exciting as the competition for the awards intensifies.
SPEEd will release the complete list of nominees for the acting and technical categories, along with the special awards, in the following weeks.
Among the recognitions is the Isah V. Red award, in commemoration of the late founding president of the organization, given to outstanding individuals from different fields. There are also the EDDYS Icon Awardees.
Other special recognitions include the Joe Quirino Award, Manny Pichel award, Rising Producers’ Circle, and Producer of the Year.
SPEEd celebrates the fifth edition of the EDDYS with the support of Fire and Ice Media and Productions, the company established by Liza Diño and Seguerra.
Also lending their assistance for the festivities as a partner sponsor is Globe Telecom, with JFV Rice Mill and Bataan Representative Geraldine B. Roman.
The auditing firm of Juancho Robles, Chan Robles & Company, CPAs, will serve as the votes auditor for the fifth EDDYS, as they did during previous editions of the event.
SPEEd, through the EDDYS, aims to encourage and raise the bar for Filipino filmmakers, producers, writers, actors, and other members who help create quality films that highlight their talent and creativity, sometimes on a global scale.
