Action continued to heat up during weeks 11 and 12 of the Patafa Weekly Relay Series supported by the Philippine Sports Commission and CEL Logistics, Inc. at the Philsports Track and Field oval.
Saturday saw elite/collegiate athletes flock to the venue to try and catch the last bus in their category as only the top performers in the events will qualify to the finals scheduled on November 19 and 20.
As expected, dominating the cast of elite finalists were athletes from those preparing for the University Athletic Association of the Philippines led by Far Eastern University, National University, University
of the East and University of the Philippines which have contenders in practically all events, whether it be on the track or on the field.
Among the non-collegiate teams, it was Team Iskolar of Calamba which had a slew of finalists, most especially on the women’s side.
A personal best height of 5.10 meters was registered by Hokett de los Santos of University of Santo Tomas in the pole vault breaking his previous best of 5.05m. Santos was the silver medalist in the SEA Games where world number 3 pole vaulter EJ Obiena took the gold.
On the other hand, junior and youth athletes coming from schools and cities converged at the venue Sunday for their penultimate day of eliminations where thrilling finishes in the track events abound and promising performances on the field events were observed by the Patafa officials.
“It was so exciting to see these athletes giving their all during their performances, gunning for their personal achievements and showcasing their talents hoping that they could carry the country’s colors in the future,” Patafa president Terry Capistrano said.
The Patafa Weekly Relay Series is made possible with the cooperation and sponsorship of the Philippine Sports Commission, CEL Logistics, Milo, Cignal TV, Wireless Link Technologies, Casio G-Shock, Cellife Cellular Nutrition, Masiv Sports, Dr. J Alcohol, Pencer Q, Puma and Silver Bullet Productions.
