CALAPE, Bohol — He promised to go all-out to score an impressive win and John Vergil Vitor did just that.
Vitor scored an emphatic second-round knockout out (KO) win against South Korea’s Dong Kwan Lee in the main event of the “Kumong Bol-anon 8” card on Thursday night, Dec. 8, at the Calape Gymnasium in Calape town, Bohol.
Successfully defending his WBO Oriental junior super featherweight title, Vitor made short work of Kwan Lee with vicious blows, downing the visiting opponent twice in the second round en route to sealing his 20th win in 22 fights.
Vitor first downed Kwan Lee with a right overhand midway through the second round.
With Kwan Lee seemingly hurt, the 25-year-old fighter from Tagbilaran City, Bohol did not let up and delivered a vicious left hook that floored the South Korean boxer again.
A groggy Kwan Lee tried to get up but failed to beat referee Danrex Tapdasan’s count that ended the match with only two seconds left in Round 2.
“May favorite punch is left hook and I am happy that I was able to connect using it,” said Vitor, who now has 13 KO wins.
Vitor came into the match confident of scoring a KO win within five rounds.
All he needed, he said, was to engage Kwan Lee in a brawl.
“It was a good thing that he kept coming because that was the plan, engage him in a brawl,” said the PMI Vitor, who pulled his opponent’s record down to 16W-3L-2D, 7KO.
Vitor’s promoter/manager Floriezyl Echavez Podot, said the impressive victory showed that his ward is ripe for bigger fights.
In the co-main event, Vitor’s stablemate Daniel Nicolas pulled off a hard-earned split decision win over Justine Tesoro.
The close win handed Nicolas the WBO Oriental Youth featherweight belt.
Five other PMI fighters triumphed in the undercard.
Pablito Balidio scored a fourth-round TKO win over Ernesto Camiguing, Gerwin Asilo notched a unanimous decision (UD) win over Kier Clenton Espere, Rodel Suganob escaped with fourth-round technical decision victory over Mark Glen Antaran, Shane Gentallan bagged a TKO win over Ronald Ewican, while Jhunriel Castino pocketed a UD victory over Emmanuel Mogawa.
