GMA’s hit TV show “Maria Clara at Ibarra” was lauded at the first-ever Gawad Banyuhay held at the historic Manila Hotel Dec 12.
As established by the Dr. Carl E. Balita Foundation, the Gawad Banyuhay recognizes individuals or groups that serve as fine examples and inspiration to others through its services or activities.
“Maria Clara At Ibarra” was conferred the Gawad Banyuhay sa Programang Pang-Edukasyon.
On hand to receive the award was the show’s star Barbie Forteza.
She thanked Gawad Banyuhay for recognizing the show’s effort to not only entertain but also educate its audiences.
Sparkle GMA Artist Center posted photos from the event, congratulating Barbie.
“We say DASURB!!,” it said. “We are very proud of you our Bb. Klay!”
In “Maria Clara at Ibarra,” Barbie plays Klay, a nursing student transported into the pages of Dr. Jose Riza’s “Noli Me Tangere.”
The hit show has inspired many to read or reread the book.
