“YESSSSS!!!!”
That was the reaction of Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala after earning a slot in the qualifying rounds for next year’s Australian Open in Melbourne.
The excitement was understandable as this will mark Eala’s first pro-level match in a Grand Slam event.
“YESSSSS!!!! I made the cut for the Qualifying Rounds of the Australian Open 2023 in Melbourne! This will be my first match ever in the pro-level of a Grand Slam,” wrote Eala on a Facebook post.

The Australian Open – the first of four Grand Slam events – is slated on January 16-29.
Eala is the first Filipino tennis player to win a Grand Slam event after her astonishing show that saw her raise the US Open Juniors trophy in New York.
The Australian Open holds a special place in Eala’s heart having won the girls’ doubles title with partner Priska Madelyn Nugroho in 2020.
The 17-year-old has also been actively keeping herself in tip-top shape to prepare herself for tougher challenges ahead.
