D’Shipper/BBB and the famed Guagua Cockpit 1 are hoping to produce the same success as last year as the 2023 World Slasher Cup is all set to dazzle cockfighting aficionados on Jan. 26 to Feb. 1 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Both the D’Shipper/BBB of Roel Facundo, B. Joson and J. Bacar and
Guagua Cockpit I – owned by Nyok, Tony and Engr. Canlas – tallied similar 8-1 records at the end of last year’s second edition to emerge co-winners.
Known as the “Olympics of Cockfighting”, the annual World Slasher Cup will see a swarm of breeders and cock fighters from around the world once again.
“We are very excited to welcome fans of cockfighting back to the Smart Araneta Coliseum for the WSC. Since it began, the WSC has always been held at the Big Dome, and cockfighting fans have been watching the spectacle unfold here for almost six decades,” said Irene L. Jose, COO of Uniprom Inc (the entertainment arm of the Araneta Group)
This year’s 9-cock invitational derby will be held for seven days with the two-cock elimination round on Jan. 26 and 27; the three-cock semifinals on Jan. 28 and 29; the four-cock pre-finals will be on Jan. 31; and the much-anticipated four-cock grand finals will be on Feb. 1.
“But more than that, cockfighting is a sport deeply rooted in Filipino tradition, and the WSC is, in a way, a celebration of this important aspect of our culture,” Jose concluded.
