Pido Jarencio is set to return as University of Santo Tomas men’s basketball head coach, multiple sources confirmed Friday.
This came following Bal David’s resignation as head tactician of the team after only one season on Thursday night, Jan. 26.
In 2006, Jarencio debuted his coaching career with UST and led the Growling Tigers to their last UAAP championship title.
Jarencio went on to bring UST to six Final Four appearances throughout his seven-year stint with the team before stepping down in 2013.
The 58-year-old tactician will inherit a team which suffered a painful 13-game losing streak last season, managing to win only its opening match.
Jarencio was recently named as NorthPort’s team manager following Bonnie Tan’s appointment as interim head coach of the team for the PBA Governors’ Cup.
As per The Varsitarian, assistant coach Rodney Santos has expressed his continued commitment to the team as part of the coaching staff despite David’s departure.
The Growling Tigers are led holdovers by Nic Cabañero, Royce Mantua, Richi Calimag and import Adama Faye.
