“Pieta” is creating noise.
The upcoming film, written and directed by Adolf Alix Jr., is slowly forming into a huge, must-watch epic.
And mainly because of the personalities involved.
No doubt, Adolf is among more accomplished writer-director of his generation. His stamp alone makes “Pieta” interesting.
However, “Pieta” also involves the country’s one and only Superstar, National Artist for film and broadcast arts, Nora Aunor, as main star.
She is out to display her much-vaunted acting mettle in the film, where she plays the role of a nearly blind woman suffering from Alzheimer’s.
Piqued, yet? Wait, there’s more.
The film also has Gina Alajar, Bembol Roco, Jaclyn Jose, Angeli Bayani, Ina Raymundo, Tommy Alejandrino, Alfred Vargas, playing important roles.
Alfred, who is also film producer, said, “To be honest po, hindi ako makapaniwala na nabuo naming ang ganito katinding cast. Credit goes to Direk Adolf. Talagang he made sure na makuha naming ang the best of the best sa industriya para sa pelikula.”
Isn’t it doubly hard for him, acting in and producing the film?
“Mahirap na masarap,” Alfred told us. “Siyempre, you are trying to marry art and business so may mga challenges yan. Pero iba kasi ang fulfilment na hatid sa akin bilang producer, iba rin bilang aktor. So, it’s exciting. I’m looking forward to see what I would learn as we go along.”
Note, Alfred plays a major role in “Pieta.”
He plays the role of a man longing for truth, love — after spending years in jail having been wrongly convicted of killing his own father. “It’s a complicated role and I admit may kaba. Lalo na nga’t makakasabayan mo pa rito eh pawang mga premyadong mga aktor ika nga. Pero yun nga, you need new challenges to widen your horizon as actor eh. At ako, I’m always about learning something new. So, yeah, I’m really excited.”
