Vilma Santos-Recto is celebrating is her 60 th year in show business.
Yes, it is a long time, indeed.
Most people her age would rather retire and leave it all behind but she won’t. She can’t. The artist in her is not yet done.
The 69-year-old multi-awarded acting veteran related, “To be honest, ayoko pa dahil feeling ko marami pang puedeng gawing kuwento, marami pang roles na maari kong gampanan. Sa totoo lang, I’m still excited with work. Feeling ko nag-e-evolve pa ako.”
She cited one topic that she has been itching to tackle: Muslim culture.
“Hindi ko pa nagagawa yan sa haba ng career ko and I really want to see a good script about our Muslim brothers and sisters, their tradition, their culture. I think may maganda kuwento tayong mabubuo about it,” she said.
To be clear, she doesn’t have to star in it.
“Willing ako kung bagay sa akin ang role pero yun nga, kung hindi, willing din akong i-produce o, i-direct ito.”
That would have to wait for now, though. Vilma is busy. She already has three films lined up this year.
First is a reunion project with Christopher de Leon to be filmed in Japan. The second, a thriller, to be helmed by Erik Matti. She is mum about the third.
“Hindi pa ako puwede magbigay ng detalye para sa pangatlo pero exciting din ito, promise. It will be under Star Cinema,” Vilma shared.
Beyond that, the Star For All Season has her hands full with a new endorsement. She is now the face of Angkas, the popular motorcycle-for-hire company.
She said, “Riding a motorcycle is nothing new for me. My husband (Batangas Rep. Ralph Recto) used to pick me up from work using his big bike. Umaangkas talaga ako. So, when Angkas, approached me it was easy to say yes.”
She has another reason.
“Gusto ko yung main thrust nila, which is that of giving many Filipinos new job opportunities. I like that. As a public servant, I understand the need. Kaya maraming nagugutom, dahil walang trabaho. And with Angkas, mababawasan yan. Magkakaroon
ang marami sa atin ng bagong pag-asa.”
Her main concern though is safety.
“Ayoko naman na e-indorso ang isang bagay na mapanganib sa publiko so, nagtanong talaga ako and the company assured me, it’s 99.997% safe.”
