With all the achievements coming in one after another, it’s not too hard to think that Scottie Thompson is now reaching the peak of his career.
The charismatic Barangay Ginebra guard has already won seven titles in the PBA on top of his two Finals MVP crown, two Best Player of the Conference awards, and most importantly, one season MVP plum.
He also got his jersey retired by his beloved Alma Mater, University of Perpetual Help and was voted by fans as the FIBA Player of the Year.
On Monday, March 6, Thompson added another feather to an already decorated hat as he was also awarded as the Philippine Sportswriters Association’s Mr. Basketball, on the first of his many more appearances in the future in the glittering annual Awards Night at the Diamond Hotel.
“Well, truly honored and sobrang thankful sa mga friends namin na nandito lahat and syempre kay God sa binigay niyang award na ito syempre without him this would not be possible so thankful and really honored,” said Thompson who for the meantime set his Gilas Pilipinas and Ginebra jersey aside for a more prim and proper suit.
“Sana magtuloy-tuluy lang talagang sobrang blessed lang na talaga na sunod sunod na achievements yung dumadaan sa buhay ko. Alam natin early pa sa career ko hopefully maging stay blessed ako and ang prayer ko is maging healthy lang throughout my career, added the soon-to-be a daddy who was accompanied by his wife Jinky, elegant in her black gown.
Thompson joined a legendary roster of awardees, including the now four-time PSA Athlete of the Year awardee Hidilyn Diaz and PH track queen Elma Muros-Posadas to name a few, in the night where the country’s scribes honor the best and the greatest of athletes of the past year.
Just like his peers, knowing full well that along with his achievements are also the legion of fans supporting him and aspiring young athletes looking up to him, Thompson wanted to become an inspiration especially for those who were just like him back when he was starting to reach for his dreams.
.“To all aspiring athletes like me na talagang nagsimula talaga sa wala, everything starts sa hardwork, prayer and discipline sa sarili, yung faith mo kay God yun lang yung panghahawakan mo ,” shared Thompson.
