De La Salle dumped University of the East, 25-20, 25-21, 25-14 and remained undefeated in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday, March 8, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Lady Spikers were challenged by the valiant Lady Warriors in the first two frames but got the needed breaks they wanted in the crunch to prevail that extended their winning run to four games.
Thea Gagate towered for the Lady Spikers with 13 points on eight attacks and five blocks, while rookie Angel Canino had another double-digit outing of 10 points laced with eight excellent receptions and seven digs.
While La Salle continued its rampage, its chief rival, Ateneo, suffered another heartbreaking defeat, this time to Far Eastern University, 25-12, 15-25, 19-25, 25-15, 18-16.
FEU, on the other hand, ended a two-game skid for a 2-2 mark while the Lady Eagles absorbed their third defeat in four games.
Jovelyn Fernandez delivered the goods for FEU with 18 points off 15 attacks, two aces and a block, while Alyzza Devosora and Mitzi Panangin added 13 and 11, respectively.
Marga Encarnacion, for her part, took care of the Lady Tamaraws’ floor defense with 35 excellent digs and 12 receptions.
