De La Salle held off Adamson, 22-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-19, and moved into threshold of sweeping the first round elims in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday, March 19, at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
The Lady Spikers overcame a scrappy opening set before getting back their offensive rhythm to dismantle the Lady Falcons and improve to 6-0.
They will go for a sweep when they battle the defending champions National University Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday, March 22, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Super rookie Angel Canino of Bacolod put on another impressive performance of 21 points off 20 attacks and an ace laced by 17 excellent receptions.
Middle blockers Thea Gagate and Fifi Sharma added 16 and 12, highlighted by five and six blocks, respectively. Jolina Dela Cruz also shone offensively with in 10 points.
The Lady Spikers managed to pull away in the fourth set after Canino produced three straight points for a 20-13 advantage. It was La Salle show from there on.
In all, La Salles tallied14 blocks and seven aces compared to Adamson’s one and two, respectively.
Trisha Tubu and Kate Santiago paced Adamson with 13 and 12 points, respectively, as their three-game win streak would be snapped for a 4-2 win-loss record.
