The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons are getting taller and bigger. And fearsome, too.
This is because they have successfully lured Fil-Am Sean Alter to play for them in the coming UAAP season, making them – as usual – the team to beat, what with their awesome size.
UP Men’s Basketball Team (UPMBT) Director for Operations Bo Perasol said the addition of the 6-foot-8 Alter “is the product of fruitful discussions between Sean, his family, our coaching staff, the UPMBT management team, and alumni involved in the program.”
“There is a shared belief in what we are working to accomplish in UP, and we are humbled that Sean is going to be part of a team that is committed to upholding the values of our University,” added Perasol.
The acquisition of Alter boosts the team that is aching to regain lost glory following a title defeat to the Ateneo Blue Eagles last season and the lost of star center Carl Tamayo to the pro ranks.
Alter, who suited up for Volcano Vista High School, which is a two-time state champion in New Mexico, will be eligible for five playing seasons beginning in Season 86.
The Maroons have earlier acquired three star players of La Salle Greehills — Josh Coronel, Seven Gagate and Luis Pablo.
The additions of Alter, Gagate and Pablo will certainly fill the void left by Tamayo who is now playing the Japanese pro league.
