University of Perpetual Help shattered two records and finished third overall in the NCAA track and field competitions held over the weekend at the Philsports Track Oval in Pasig City.
Led by SEA Games-bound javelin thrower John Paul Sarmiento and discus thrower Russel Ricaforte, the 12-man team from Las Piñas garnered 389 points to finish third behind Jose Rizal University (683) and Mapua (661.5)
A 3rd year business marketing student, Sarmiento, 23, threw the spear to a distance of 63.02 meters – a new record.
Ricaforte, 22, heaved the iron disc to a distance of 46.91 meters, breaking the previous record of 41.46 meters established in 2019 by Carlos Corpus of Arellano University.
Ricaforte also won a silver medal in shot put (13.70 meters), just5 .25 meter short of the gold medal effort of Mapua’s John Michael Fajardo.
Apart from the record-setting wins by Ricaforte and Sarmiento, Perpetual also produced six silver and 2 bronze medals.
Winning silver medals for Perpetual were James Ceballos (200 meters dash), Jumell Gonzales (400m), Pablo Ruffer, JM Jaminillo, Jeremiah Cortez and Jumel Gonzales (4×100 meters relay), Jan Bayang, Jake Mengorio, Benjie Dahac and Jumel Gonzales (4×400 meters relay)
Jake Mengorio got the bronze medal in the 400 meters and so was Eman Medrano in long jump.
