Many know Emil Sumangil for his work as journalist.
But did you know he is also a devout Christian and that he actually doesn’t miss mass?
Indeed, despite his busy schedule, Emil makes sure to always have time to visit church.
He also prays regularly.
Asked to explain his apparent devotion, Emil says simply, “Ganito lang po ako pinalaki.”
Prodded further, Emil shares how his faith allows him to go further than usual in fulfilling his job.
“Tinitignan ko po itong sandata sa pagtupad ng aking tungkulin,” he maintains.
Covering high-profile criminal cases, no doubt, his work is fraught with danger. But he is not afraid. Emil believes faith brought him where he is today.
“Ang Diyos ang nagdala sa akin sa kinaroroonan ko ngayon. Siguro hindi naman ako dadalhin ng Diyos dito kung hahayaan lamang niya ako. Yun po ang paniniwala ko.”
Given his apparent piousness, we asked Emil if he avoids handling assignments that may be considered disadvantageous to the religious institutions he serves.
He doesn’t.
He says, “As a journalist hindi po tayong mamili ng panig. Sa katotohanan lamang po tayo. Kung may kaso na sangkot ang Simbahang Katoliko, handa po tayong imbestigahan ito. Wala po tayong inaayawan.”
It is only fitting that GMA Public Affairs has since tasked him to become the voice and the face to its multi-platform public service program, “Resibo: Walang Lusot Ang May Atraso.”
To air in both radio and television as well as stream on social media, “Resibo: Walang Lusot Ang May Atraso” aims to hear grievances and complaints from Filipinos here and abroad and provide concrete actions that will give hopeful resolution to every case featured.
Says Emil, “Maliit man yan o malaking kaso, basta may ‘resibo,’ basta may ebidensiya, handa tayong imbestigahan yan.”
Aside from simply investigating the facts relating to the cases, Emil will actually lead the program’s actual operations – facing concerned parties, hearing both sides, facilitating dialogues, and resolve concerns.
“Serbisyo publiko po ito kaya po lahat papakinggan natin,” he vows. “Ang atin pong layunin dito ay mabigyan ng resolusyon ang bawa’t kaso na ating haharapin.”
On its pilot telecast, “Resibo” takes on two cases.
One concerns an estranged couple in Taguig City fighting for custody over their two years old daughter.
Another is a hot pursuit of sorts, relating a murder suspect said to be hiding for almost a decade.
“Resibo: Walang Lusot Ang May Atraso” airs every Sunday beginning May 7, 5pm, on GMA and GTV, with simulcast on DZBB, Super Radyo in Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Palawan, General Santos and Kalibo as well as livestreaming on GMA Public Affairs YouTube channel and social media accounts.
