PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — Kim Mangrobang survived the punishing heat at the Kiep Beach Town in Kiep City here en route to winning the women’s duathlon gold medal Sunday, May 7, in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games here.
The 31-year-old Mangrobang timed 1 hour, 4 minutes and 25.3 seconds to retain the title she won in last year’s edition held in Vietnam.
She beat Vietnam’s Thi Phuong Trinh Nguyen (1:05:13.5) and Indonesia’s Maharani Azhri Wahyuning (1:06:17.4), who settled for silver and bronze, respectively.
Mangrobang’s teammate Kira Ellis, meanwhile, finished fifth in 1:07:13.6.
In men’s duathlon, Fer Casares and John Chicano failed to make it to the podium after finishing fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 55:19.8 and 55:41.4.
Mangrobang and Casares gun for the women’s and men’s triathlon gold Monday, May 9, along with Kim Remolino and Raven Alcoseba.
