The Pilipinas Super League, in partnership with the second district of Quezon Province, is launching the D2 Super Cup Invitational Tournament which will be played in the newly built Tiaong Convention Center in June.
A week-long jam-packed basketball action is expected in the tournament which will feature 20 teams that include some of the top amateur teams in the country along with Quezon’s very own squads from Lucena City, Sariaya, Candelaria, Tiaong, and San Antonio.
“It is an opportunity for the second district na ilagay sa mapa ng calendar ng sports activities sa ating bansa. Sa nakalipas na ilang mga taon malaki po ang ininvest ng pamahalaang national upang pagandahin ang mga sports facilities and convention centers sa second district,” said Quezon province second district representative David Jayjay Suarez.
“I think it is high time that we also open the doors of Quezon province to the sports calendar,” said Suarez who was joined by second district sports coordinator Jonas Guiao, PSL President Rocky Chan, vice president Ray Alao, and Commissioner Leo Isaac.
The launch of the tournament will also coincide with PSL’s launch of its under-18 and under-21 competitions.
Teams from Royce Hotel and Strong Group are also joining the open pro conference where teams are also allowed to have two foreign imports and one fil-foreign player in its roster as they vie for the lion’s share of the P2 million at stake.
Isaac said that at least 20 teams are expected to join where they will be divided into four groups with five teams that will play in a single-round robin eliminations. The top teams from each group advance to the knockout semifinals.
The two best teams then battle for all the marbles in the winner-take-all finale.
