The boxing community is now mourning the death of promising bantamweight fighter Kenneth Egano, who passed away on Wednesday due to brain hemorrhage.
He was 22.
Egano fell into coma following an action-packed bout with Jason Facularin in one of the undercards of the Blow-By-Blow boxing program held at the Imus Sports gymnasium on Saturday.
Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions is in charge of the Blow-By-Blow program that aims to discover new talents.
Wendell Alinea, who was the event’s photographer, said Egano never heard his name called as winner in their 8-round fight as he lost his consciousness before the scorecards were announced.
“He was already feeling discomfort,” said Alinea. “Grabe kasi ang laban nila, talagang bakbakan. Palitan ng suntok. Nung una si Facularin ang lamang, napabagsak siya si Egano. Tapos nakabawi si Egano.”
Before he succumbed from head injuries, the Gen. Santos fighter had a 7-1 record, including 3 by knockouts.
After falling, Egano was immediately brought to a nearby hospital where he lapsed into coma.
Paquiao earlier promised to shoulder all the medical expenses of Egano. (Reynald Maggalon)
