Ombudsman and Judiciary kept their playoff bids alive with runaway victories Wednesday in the UNTV Cup Executive Face-Off at the Novadeci Convention Center in Quezon City.
Drawing significant numbers from Ian Mateo and Hyderabad Casar, the Graftbusters mowed down the GSIS Furies, 82-48, while the Judiciary Magis likewise scored a convincing 74-43win over the Office of the President Executives.
The wins improved their records to 2-3, but need to hurdle their last assignments to forge a playoff for the fourth and last semis berth.
The PNP Responders, on the other hand, secured a playoff for the last semis berth after pulling off a thrilling 73-72 win over the Senate Sentinels.
The win was PNP’s third in four games while handing the Sentinels their second defeat in five starts.
Joey Yabut led the Magis with 19 points and 5 boards while Jonathan Lock added 11 points.
Joshua Alejardro was almost un stoppable inside the paint, exploding for 28 points apart from posting 7 boards and 4 steals. He got solid support from Joel De Mesa who tallied 21 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.
The top two finishers in the seven-team single-round elims will secure twice-to-beat advantages in the playoffs.
